About this video: NeoForge is a Minecraft mod loader that forked off from the “Forge” mod loader. It is worth noting that Forge mods will not work with NeoForge 1.21. NeoForge is now a complete separate mod loader for Minecraft 1.21, and because of this, mods must support NeoForge 1.21 specifically in order to work.
With that being said, this video shows you how to play NeoForge mods in Minecraft 1.21 starting off with how to download NeoForge 1.21.
There is a link in the description above that will take you to the official NeoForge download page for 1.21. On this page, find the “21.0” version of NeoForge for Minecraft 1.21.0. This is the version we want. Click the “Latest NeoForge Installer” button to start downloading the Minecraft NeoForge Installer for 1.21.
Once you have the NeoForge Installer, you will want to open it up with Java. However, it is possible, you won’t be able to open 1.21 NeForge even if you have Java. That is because as of Minecraft 1.21, you need to get Java 21. There is a complete guide on getting Java 21 for NeoForge mods in the description above.
After you have Java 21, it’s time to move on to how to install NeoForge 1.21 in Minecraft. Open up the NeoForge Installer for 1.21 using Java, click on “Install Client” and click “Proceed”. NeoForge 1.21 will now download and install into Minecraft. The only reason it wouldn’t install is if Minecraft or the Minecraft Launcher or open or you have never played Minecraft 1.21 before.
When you get the NeoForge 1.21 has been successfully installed message appears, close out of the NeoForge installer. Now, we just need to open up the Minecraft Launcher and go to the “Installations” tab. Make sure that the “Modded” checkbox is click in the top right. Here, you will see a NeoForge installation. Hover over it and click “Play” and click “Play” again on the window that appears. Minecraft 1.21 will now open with NeoForge installed!
However, what if you want to add mods to NeoForge. Well, in order to play NeoForge mods for Minecraft 1.21, you will need to first download some NeoForge mods. There are links in the description above to CurseForge and Modrinth.
Both of these are trusted to download Minecraft mods, and you can filter for just NeoForge 1.21 mods ensuring the mods you are looking at have updated to 1.21 and support the NeoForge mod loader. Remember Forge mods will not work with NeoForge. Mods must be listed as compatible with NeoForge to work.
With your NeoForge mods for 1.21 downloaded, open Minecraft with NeoForge and click on the “Mods” button on the main menu. Then, click “Mods Folder” in the bottom left. Drag-and-drop the NeoForge mods you want to play into this mods folder. Restart Minecraft making sure you are playing with NeoForge. When Minecraft is open again, your NeoForge 1.21 mods will be installed and working!
